Improving user experiences in Engineering Labs

Project Description

In partnership with the UC Merced Engineering Instructional Labs, the Instructional Lab 1 (IL1) Engineering Service Learning team is working to enhance student user experiences in the Strength and Materials course.  The IL1 team is designing numerical simulations to support existing labs, and is improving a lab manuals that correlate with additional tensile testing equipment through quantitative analysis of user feedback.  This project has emphasis in programing, user experience, management, and materials testing.

Faculty Adviser:
Professor Sachin Goyal

Interests:
  • Computational dynamics, mechanics and controls, with applications primarily in micro-scale biological systems
  • Continuum-dynamics- and multi-body-dynamics-based modeling, and inverse modeling, of DNA and proteins, and their interactions
  • Constitutive law modeling of bio-filaments from their molecular dynamics simulations

Community Partner:
UC Merced Engineering Instructional Labs

The community partner for this project is the Strength of Materials Instructional Lab. Dr. Sergio Pineda, the Instructional Laboratories Manager from the School of Engineering serves as the community partner’s representative and chief liaison. The goal of our community partner is to provide a superior learning environment for both students and researchers. Dr. Pineda will receive the project’s deliverables as well as monitor the team’s progress.
