LEED Lab Fall 2019 Team Biographies

   

Fatima Claderon

Communications Officer 

Fatima Calderon is a second year Psychology student working in the LEED lab team. She will be assessing the green cleaning procedures at Sierra Terraces and making sure they are sustainable. Fatima is also the communications officer of her team which means she will be contacting stakeholders and scheduling meetings. She is excited to be part of this service-learning project as it will teach her about aspects of sustainability which she believes is important given ongoing issues like climate change.

Emily Carrasco

Team Member

Emily Carrasco is a first-year Environmental Engineering student and is a team member from the LEED Lab Engineering Service LearningTeam, where she is working to reduce light pollution surrounding one of the residential buildings on campus. Carrasco has a passion for the environment has joined the team to learn skills that can be used in a career in environmental engineering. She is interested in creating and learning designs that help against environmental threats, such as climate change and pollution. Carrasco hopes to one day reduce the waste in oceans and help with rebuilding the lost environment.

Joseph Del Mundo

Team Leader

Joseph Del Mundo is a first-year Mechanical Engineering student and the Team Leader of the Indoor Environmental Quality team for the LEED Lab. Joseph joined the LEED Lab team because of a desire to perform real-world engineering work and gain professional work experience. Through the LEED Lab project, he hopes to gain a better understanding of professional cooperation and communication with project and community partners. Following graduation, Joseph hopes to pursue a career in the aerospace industry with afocus on aircraft development.

Jolene Hoang

Team Leader

Jolene Hoang is a second-year Mechanical Engineering student and the team leader for Energy and Atmosphere Team in LEED Lab. Being a part of this project is a great first-time experience to understand how to work in an engineering project with a team. She has recently gotten a restoration hangar internship at Castle Air Museum in Fall Semester 2019. She chose this Engineering Service Learning project because she didn’t have an engineering project or engineering experience. Her professional goal is to be able to have both soft and hard skills to improve on her resume before she graduates.

Anthony Mongan

Intellectual Property Officer

Anthony Monganis a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student at UC Merced. He is the Intellectual Property Officer (IPO) of the LEED lab Engineering Service Learning team, where he oversees the writing of design documentation for his project. Mongan works as part of the also in charge of the Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Strategies sub-team where he analyzes air quality data of the Sierra Terraces housing building at UC Merced. Mongan currently holds the position of Treasurer for the UC Merced Robotics Society. He is interested in robots and plans to get an internship related to his major or robotics in general.

Dayane Nascimento

Project Manger

Dayane Nascimento has entered her last year at the university pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Her goal is to work in sustainability, where she can implement what she has learned in LEED lab and at her current job on campus as an energy analyst. She is the project manager for the LEED lab. Her professional goal is to grow as a leader, learn more about LEED credits, and gain real-world experiences. She currently is Vice President for ASHRAE, a new club on campus. Lastly, Nascimento is a CNI Fellow developing a Life Cycle Analysis mobile sharing app for the staff and faculty on campus.

Antonio Piña

Assistant Project Manager

Antonio Piña is a fifth-year Environmental Engineering undergraduate student. He is the assistant project manager for the Engineering Service LearningLEED Lab team for Fall 2019. He and his team are performing the Existing Building Operation and Maintenance certification for the Sierra Terraces housing building. Through the collection and analysis of operations and maintenance data Piña and his team are planning on achieving Gold LEED status. Piña chose the LEED lab team because he is interested in a career that cares about sustainability. LEED lab showcases current real-world jobs and practices in the sustainability field

Ismael Ysua

Procurement and Finance Officer

Ismael Ysua is a fourth-year environmental engineering student at UC Merced. He is the procurement and finance officer of the LEED Lab Engineering Service Learningteam. Being part of this project is very meaningful to Ysua. The LEED Lab creates an impact by helping the environment by making buildings more eco-friendly. This year, the team is focusing on the Sierra Terraces at UC Merced. Ysua is excited about the real-world skills and concepts he will get through this project. His goal is to become LEED certified to assess building shortly and further help out his community.

Stanley Yuan

Team Member

Stanley Yuan is a first-year Computer Science and Engineering major and a member of the Association for Computing Machinery. Yuan joined the LEED project because of its goal of making his campus more sustainable and ecologically friendly and becoming more involved in a professional setting. Through this project, he plans to gain a better understanding of the importance of every role and communicate well to his managers and co-workers. Creative thinking and time management are Yuan's greatest strengths. After graduation, Yuan intends to pursue a career in the computer science field with an emphasis on software developing.
