ESW Biographies for Spring 2016

Anwar Khanshali – Project Manager

Khanshali is a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student. He is the Project Manager for the Engineering Service Learning team, Engineers for a Sustainable World. He chose this team because it would give him a chance to help the community with issues that need to be solved and learn the processes required to make a difference. Khanshali is interested in making the world a better place, specifically, where the businesses and nature can coexist. He enjoys learning and exploring new ways to improve.  

Linda Erazo – Assistant Project Manager

Linda Erazo is a first year student and studying Environmental Engineering. She chose the Engineering Service Learning team, Engineers for a Sustainable World because it provides high opportunities to develop her knowledge towards pro-green methods that entrepreneurs can use to succeed. She has a passion for helping others and her biggest dream is to travel and live in third-world countries. She wants to assure that majority of the population has clean water to drink, uncontaminated air to breathe, and healthy soil to harvest. Erazo enjoys volunteering and her enthusiasm for making the planet and its atmosphere a better place is one of her top priorities.

Poima Maluia – Communications Officer

Maluia is a first year here at UC Merced and currently is majoring in Environmental Engineering. She is a member of the Environmental Service Learning team, Engineers for a Sustainable Word. Maluia chose this team in hopes to gain more experience regarding environmental issues and how to help solve for a temporary or possibly permanent fix. One of her biggest self-accomplishment was saving enough of her money to buy herself her own MacBook. Despite being lactose intolerant, she still enjoys eating ice cream.

Tamunotubo Omunguye George – Intellectual Project Officer.

George is a first year Material Science and Engineering student. He is the Intellectual Project Officer of the Engineering Service Learning Team, Engineers for a Sustainable World. George has always taken a personal interest in making the planet greener. Before college, he volunteered in a variety of environmental programs in his community to help the cause, but has kept his professional interest in the energy sector. Apart from his academic interests, George loves playing on the Xbox but he loves playing soccer almost more than anything else

Roman Wong – Procurement and Finance Officer

Roman Wong is a second year Computer Science and Engineering student. Wong is the PFO of the Engineering Service Learning team, Engineers for a Sustainable World. He chose the team because he was interested in the opportunity to apply his programming skills. Wong has been pursuing knowledge of programming since 10th grade of high school. He enjoys traveling around the world and enjoying the diverse cuisines that different cultures have to offer, even foods that would Americans wouldn’t normally eat, such as pig’s blood, sea cucumbers, and snake.

Ariana de Santiago – Team Leader

Ariana de Santiago is a first year undeclared Engineering student. De Santiago is a Team Leader of the Engineering Service Learning team, Engineers for a Sustainable World. She choose it because it gave her chance to support small businesses as well as protecting the environment. As a first year De Santiago is hoping to gain real life experience that will help her in the future. She is fascinated by different cultures and is currently studying Japanese, she travels to Japan to immerse herself in the culture.

Paul Wen – Team Member

Wen is a fourth year Environmental Engineering student with an emphasis in Waste Management. Wen is the team member of the Engineering Service Learning team, Engineering for a Sustainable World. He wants to help local business and household to be aware of more eco-friendly options. Through this project, Paul wishes to know what the people actually need and what they are looking for when they say eco-friendly. Paul also enjoy to teach high school students in math. He believes that in order to make the world a better place, you need to start with the younger generation.
