Get S.E.T. Biographies for Fall 2017

Berenice Madrigal

Assistant Project Manager

Berenice Madrigal is a third-year Public Health major. Madrigal is the assistant project manager of the Engineering Service Learning Team Get S.E.T. Madrigal chose the Get S.E.T team because she wanted to be part of a project that would have a positive impact on the younger generation. Madrigal is focused on becoming an Epidemiologist and hopes to travel to different countries to prevent the spread of illnesses and diseases in countries who lack research. Public Health isn’t Madrigal’s only interest, she is also minoring in Psychology. When she isn’t busy with school work, Madrigal likes to work out, dance, and sleep in. 

Oscar Martinez Melchor

Team Lead

Oscar Martinez Melchor is a third year Bioengineering student. Martinez is currently a team leader for team Get S.E.T. He hopes to use his experience with tutoring to accomplish team Get S.E.T.’s mission in aiding educators with teaching STEM topics. Martinez thrives in his academics and is involved with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers as well being the Vice President of Omega Delta Phi, an academic based service/social fraternity on campus. Martinez gained additional experience through an internship at Klune Industries. Working under manufacturing and continuous improvement engineers, he studied and improved aerospace component processing while being exposed to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.   

Adrian Giglio

Team Lead

Adrian Giglio is a second-year Mechanical Engineer at UC Merced. Giglio is a team leader for the Get S.E.T. project for Engineering Service Learning. Giglio has been team leader in the past for another Engineering Service Learning team before and hopes to use the knowledge and experience from his past group to be able to work better in his new position. He chose it because he wants to be able to lead a team to help the give back to the community in a positive manner. He also enjoys playing different instruments and experimenting with music.

Brian Hungerman

Communications Officer

Brian Hungerman is a second-year Computer Science and Engineering student. Hungerman is the Communications Officer of Engineering Service Learning’s Get S.E.T. team, believing his personal ability, coordinative capabilities and passion for STEM education allow him to thrive in this role. He is heavily vested in campus organizations, including being the web developer for the Center for Information Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS), Community Outreach Officer for the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), and CSE Ambassador for the Center for Career & Professional Advancement (CCPA). In his free time, he enjoys pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities at the UC Merced Venture Lab.

Ever Carbajal

Intellectual Property Officer

Ever M. Carbajal is a second-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of California, Merced. Carbajal is currently the Intellectual Property Officer for the Engineering Service Learning team, Get S.E.T.  He chose this leadership role to give himself a challenge that will lead to the overall accomplishment of the team documentation and maintenance. Carbajal is a person who enjoys embracing new obstacles, exploring new places, and meeting new people. He likes working in groups because he gets to share his knowledge with others and learn from those around him. Carbajal enjoys gaming, music, and drawing.

Catherine Montes

Catherine Montes is a third-year Mechanical Engineering major with a minor in Writing. She is a team member of the Engineering Service Team, Get S.E.T. Montes loves innovative and hands-on activities which she plans to use much of throughout the project. As a member of Ingenieros Unidos on campus, she volunteers at a local high school working on robotics and mechanics with students. Montes also enjoys spending her time volunteering and teaching young children about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and encouraging younger generations to go to college and pursue a career in STEM. 

Nhi Tran

Nhi Tran is a fifth-year Mechanical Engineering student at UC Merced. Tran is a member for the Get S.E.T. Team. Tran chose to be part of Get S.E.T to raise interest in S.T.E.M fields. Academically, Tran is interested in learning and prototyping in mechanics of weapons, fighter planes, and robotics. In addition, she is the Captain of the Bobcat Martial Arts Team, Project Manager of her Capstone team, and an undergrad researcher on campus. During her free times, Tran enjoys sleeping, playing video games, and spoiling her pets. One day, she hopes to use her skills to help contribute to the Air Force.

Fabian Martinez

Fabian Martinez is a third-year student pursuing his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of the Get S.E.T. Engineering Service Learning team. Martinez plans on getting a career in aerospace engineering after graduation. He chose the team Get S.E.T. because their goal is to build a plate tectonic prototype that will help students in elementary school learn about the different types of plate tectonics and possibly encourage them to be more interested in STEM majors. During his free time, he enjoys going to lakes and ponds and fish for bass with friends.
