Get S.E.T. Biographies for Fall 2018

   

Ericka Crystal Rosas

Project Manager

Ericka Crystal Rosas is a fifth-year Mechanical Engineering student and the Project Manager of the Get S.E.T Engineering Service Learning Team. She is a member of the professional engineering fraternity on the University of California, Merced campus and is interested in becoming a structural engineer. She hopes to contribute to the design of a building on the UC Merced campus. Rosas is excited to be a part of this team for it’s potential to help the children of Merced County increase their knowledge of tectonic plate boundaries through the use of an interactive model.

Adrian Huizar

Assistant Project Manager

Adrian Huizar is currently a third-year student and studies Mechanical Engineering, and is currently in route to getting his bachelor’s degree in that field. He has long been an active student in his community by serving community services such as soup kitchens, fieldwork, and tutoring. He chose to be Assistant Project Manager of the Engineering Service Learning team, Get S.E.T. to expand his knowledge and credibility once he enters the workforce in hopes that he can apply what he learns in Engineering Service Learning at his future job. Huizar also hopes to work for an off-roading company that specializes in racing or mechanics.

Delavan Vannaken

Intellectual Property Officer

Delavan Vannaken is a fourth-year Computer Science and Engineering major and the Intellectual Property Officer for the Get S.E.T. Engineering Service Learning Team. Being a team member on this project gives him a great opportunity to help students understand and appreciate the sciences. Vannaken is interested in many aspects of software engineering, having led the Electronics Team in the 2017-2018 AIAA Can-Sat project and currently participating in the Game Development Club on campus. Vannaken plans to pursue a career in software engineering after graduation, with an emphasis on video games that can serve as teaching tools.

Ed Blessie Joyce Fontanilla

Communications Officer

Ed Blessie Joyce Fontanilla is a first-year student majoring in Computer Science and Engineering and the Communications Officer of the Get S.E.T Engineering Service Learning team. Academically, Fontanilla is interested in becoming an intern to one of the research labs offered in UC Merced. She does not have that much experience, but during high school, she volunteered a lot especially with feeding the homeless. Being part of this project will give her an opportunity to gain more knowledge on how to work better with clients and team. Fontanilla hopes to become a successful software engineer and attend graduate school in the future.

Paty Mascorro

Procurement and Financial Officer

Paty Mascorro is a fifth-year Mechanical Engineering student and the Procurement and Financial Officer and a team member to the transform sub-team of the Plate Tectonics Get S.E.T. Engineering Service Learning team. Being a part of this project provides her with a meaningful opportunity to help young student to learn about the different types of earthquakes. Academically, Mascorro is interested in the aerospace industry and has interned with Aerospace company, Rockwell Collins. After she graduates she has a full time job waiting for her at Rockwell Collins as a Systems Platform Engineer on the same team.

Daniel Alvizures

Team Leader

Daniel Alvizures is a second-year Mechanical Engineer major. Alvizures is the team eader of the convergent sub-team. Alvizures comes from the city of South Gate in Los Angeles, California. In high school, Alvizures had done community service and is no stranger to working in a team and working together to get a task done. Alvizures chose the Get S.E.T. project because he enjoys working with other people and wants to understand more what it would be like to be an engineer. Alvizures plans on going after his master’s degree and possibly seek a job with designing objects. Additionally, Alvizures enjoys all sorts of sports, especially soccer.

Centurion Barron

Team Leader

Centurion Barron is a second-year Mechanical Engineering major focusing on the automotive industry. Barron is the team leader for the Engineering Service Learning team, Get S.E.T and joined the project because he wanted to have a positive impact on the community. Through this project, he plans to provide the education that the sixth graders need in order to do better on tests. After graduation, Barron plans to pursue a career in the automotive field, working hand in hand with mechanical engineers to design cars of the future. He is excited to improve his networking, teamwork abilities, time management, and other skills he can add to his professional skill set.

Pedro Torres

Team Leader

Pedro Torres is a second-year Computer Science and Engineering major. He is interested in helping people and applying himself with engineering skills. Torres joined the Get S.E.T. project because of its ability to give experience in projects and its ties to education for students. Through Get S.E.T., he plans to understand how to effectively communicate with different team members, how to implement goals and milestones in a project, and how to focus a project on its target audience. Professionally, Torres plans to master programming and its uses, to apply it to either his personal projects or professional occupation.

Brandon Gonzalez Lopez

Team Member

Brandon Gonzalez Lopez is a third-year Mechanical Engineering student pursuing a career in the Automotive Industry. As a team member on The Get S.E.T. team, Gonzalez is working with the instructor, Ms. Hickman, to education sixth grade student in the science of plate tectonics at Chenoweth Elementary. By working with The Get S.E.T. team, he hopes to gain valuable skills and add to the project. Gonzalez has a strong passion for team projects and hopes to gain the valuable tool of networking that will serve him well as he pursues a career in the Automotive Industry after graduation.

Roxana Gonzalez-Serrano

Team Member

Roxana Gonzalez-Serrano is a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering. Gonzalez-Serrano is a member of the Get SET Engineering Service Learning project where she is working on creating plate tectonic models for the sixth-grade classrooms of Chenoweth Elementary School. Roxana grew up in a low-income neighborhood where public schools lacked the resources to offer engaging activities to further enhance the learning of a topic. Hence Roxana has an interest in giving back to the community especially if it is to assist students. Engineering Service Learning gives her that opportunity to give back as well as encourage professional development.
