Get S.E.T. Biographies for Spring 2018

Luis Torrijos - Project Manager
 

Ricardo Marquina –  Assistant Project Manager

Ricardo Marquina is a second year Mechanical Engineering student and the Assistant Project Manager of the Get S.E.T. Engineering Service Learning Team. Being part of the project provides Marquina with a meaningful opportunity to help elementary students improve their knowledge in the science fields. Marquina has a background with AutoCAD to help produce 3D figures. He hopes to improve his presenting skills and learn how to meet deadlines, as well as accomplish achievements in projects and make sure they are accomplished. Marquina hopes to astonish the elementary kids with his skills in AutoCAD once he and his teammates deliver the final results.

 

VERONICA ACEVEDO-  Intellectual Property Officer

Veronica Acevedo is a first year student pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Acevedo is currently the Intellectual Property Officer for the Engineering Service Learning team Get S.E.T. By taking this role in the team, Acevedo plans to further her communication and time management skills, as well as to acquire knowledge and hands-on experience that will prove essential in her future profession. Acevedo joined the Get S.E.T. team because she wants to share her passion for science and engineering with children in hopes that one day they'll want to pursue a career in STEM too.

 

SEBASTIAN CARRILLO-MALDONADO - Project Financial Officer

Carrillo is a second-year student majoring in bioengineering and is the Project Financial Officer of the Get S.E.T. Engineering Service Learning team. At UC Merced, Carrillo has found himself involved in community-involved organizations such as Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and Engineers for a Sustainable World. Carrillo enjoys working in teams and putting in a lot of time and effort into his projects. He is interested in pursuing a career in designing artificial organs. Carrillo wants everyone to be able to live a healthy life and wants to start improving life for those that are sick.

 

John Ortega – Communications Officer

John Ortega is a first year Computer Science and Engineering student and the Communications Officer of the Get S.E.T. Engineering Service Learning team. Being part of this project provides him with the opportunity to get young students interested in the field of science. Ortega has a strong passion for the sciences and technology and hopes to have a career as a software engineer. Ortega plans to use this opportunity to teach students the values and possibilities of science.

 

Jared O’Connor – Team Leader

Jared O’Connor is a first year Computer Science and Engineering major. O'Connor is a Team leader of the Get S.E.T. Engineering Service Learning project.  He is interested in helping people and applying himself with engineering skills. O’Connor joined the project because of its ties to education and students. Through Get S.E.T., he plans to understand how to effectively communicate with different team members, how to implement goals and milestones in a project, and how to focus a project on its target audience. Professionally, O’Connor plans to master programming and its uses as a tool, as to allow him to apply it to either his personal pursuits or professional occupation.

 

PAOLA VASQUEZ-FABIAN – Team Leader

Paola Vasquez-Fabian is a third year Human Biology major. Paola is currently a Team Leader for the Get S.E.T. Engineering Service Learning team. Vasquez-Fabian joined the Get S.E.T. team in hopes of positively impacting the younger generation students and helping them excel in their science education. Through the project, she plans to gain a better understanding of how to effectively work as a team, she also hopes that taking this position will challenge her to get out of her comfort zone. After graduation, Vasquez-Fabian plans to pursue a career in the medical field and become a pediatrician.
