LEED Lab Biographies

   

Andrew John De Los Santos, Project Manager

Andrew John is a third year student pursuing his B.S in Mechanical Engineering. He is the project manager for the Engineering Service Learning team, LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Lab. He has a strong passion for sustainability and hopes to have a career in the green building industry after graduation. Through hands-on experience, he hopes to gain valuable skills from working on a green-building project in real time. He enjoys going to the beach and cooking dinner with friends.

Taylor Mizusawa, Assistant Project Manager

Taylor Mizusawa is a third year Environmental Engineering student. Taylor is the Assistant Project Manager of the Engineering Service Learning team LEED Lab. He chose this team to gain project experience in sustainable design and operation. Previously, he has worked with solar energy and water quality management. Taylor enjoys spending time outdoors, rock climbing, and hiking.

Daniel Aguilar, Intellectual Property Officer

Daniel Aguilar is a fifth-year undergrad pursuing his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He is the Intellectual Property Officer for the Engineering Service Learning team, Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Lab. He has chosen to take this exciting, new course to have the opportunity to progress our 21st century campus into leaders of sustainable buildings as we draw closer to an evergrowing energy crisis-filled world. Academically, Daniel has enjoyed learning the different aspects of multi-dimensional mechanics and hopes to one day have a career in design.

Edith Padilla, Procurement and Finance Officer

Edith Padilla is a third year Mechanical Engineering student and is the Procurement and Finance Officer for the LEED Lab service learning team. She has chosen this team because she wants to get involved in campus activities and projects. She also wants to be able to implement what she has learned academically to real world projects and hopes to do just that in LEED Lab. Most importantly, Edith chose LEED Lab to learn outside of the classroom, real world skills.

Celeste Navarrete, Communication Officer

Celeste Navarrete is a fourth year Environmental Engineering student. Celeste is a communication officer of the Engineering Service Learning team. She chose to be the communications officer because it was a different opportunity to explore. She has been involved in research for another service learning class known as the SJR class. She enjoys practicing Taekwondo or playing video games such as MMO’s and rpg’s. Celeste also enjoys spending times with

Patrick Coldivar, Webmaster

Patrick Coldivar is a second year Environmental Engineer at the University of California Merced.  It is his second semester participating in Engineering Service Learning.  Fortunately, he was given the honor to be this team's Webmaster. He had the luxury to be Assistant Project Manager for the Vernal Pools Reserve.  By means of effort, he was able to enhance his public speaking skills through presentations. He loves to spend time with family and relatives outdoors and enjoy the nature of life. 

Robert Martin, Energy and Atmosphere Team Leader

Robert is a second year Mechanical Engineering student. He also hopes to pursue a minor in Environmental Science and Sustainability. Through LEED Lab, Robert strives to gain professional experience working with experts in sustainable building design and learn more about what it takes to design and construct high-performance green buildings. In his free time, Robert enjoys playing the guitar and doing anything outdoors including hiking, rock climbing, and frisbee.

Luis Angel Mejia, Water Efficiency and Indoor Environmental Quality Team Leader

Luis Angel Mejia is a first year Mechanical Engineer student. Luis is the sub team leader for water efficiency. He chose it because he felt that it was the proper role to get started with in the program. Academically, Luis has been an academic mentor during his high school career and has experience with irrigation systems. He hopes to voice his opinion on water efficiency here at UC Merced. He enjoys playing the ukulele and singing for his friends

Oswald Marcelo, Sustainable Sites and Materials and Resources Team Leader

Oswald Marcelo is a fifth year Mechanical Engineering student. Oswald is concerned with the materials/sites aspect of the team in the Engineering Service Learning program LEED. He chose it because it gave him an opportunity to be part of certifying a building on campus. In terms of academics, he has taken several classes that included hands on use with Pro-E, java programming, and Matlab. Outside of school, he enjoys spending time with his family and often enjoys exploring new places.

Austin Thomas, Sustainable Sites and Materials and Resources Team Member

Austin is a first year as a Mechanical Engineering major. He is looking to use Leed Lab as an opportunity to expand his skills from a basic background in construction working in a night class and volunteering briefly with Habitat for Humanity in Novato. Alongside his background in construction, he has worked on vintage cars. As a freshman, the subjects that he studies are broad, but he hopes that Leed Lab will help to narrow his focus. He enjoys running and music.

Omar Magana, Sustainable Sites and Materials and Resources Team Member

Omar Magana is a fifth year Mechanical Engineering student. Omar is a team member of the Engineering Service Learning team LEED. He choose it because it gave him an opportunity to work on our existing buildings to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly. Omar is interested in Material Science and during the summers he would occasionally have the opportunity to work with Bodycote. During his free time he enjoys spending time in the gym and with friends.

Kelvin Cheung, Sustainable Sites and Materials and Resources Team Member

Kelvin Cheung is a third year Mechanical Engineering major. Kelvin joined LEED Lab because he is passionate and interested in learning about green architecture and the sustainable market. He also wants to gain professional skillsets by working with staff in Facilities Management. Kelvin hopes to incorporate his experience into his future graduate studies and research in Engineering. Kelvin is involved in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He spends time on a virtual marketing internship with a social media startup, Bondswell.

Alan J. Alonso, Water Efficiency and Indoor Environmental Quality Team Member

Alan Alonso is a fifth year Earth System Science major with an emphasis in Environmental Sustainability. He is a member of the LEED Lab Engineering Service Learning team.  He plans to use his experience from the Power Save Campus Program to provide the team with knowledge on testing energy efficiency and water conservation. As member of the off-campus community, Alan spends his time volunteering at community events. He cultivates a college mindset at his tutoring job and making music.
