LEED Lab Biographies for Fall 2017

Francisco Mascorro Montes

Assistant Project Manager

Francisco Mascorro is a second-year Mechanical Engineering student. Mascorro is the Assistant Project Manager of Engineering Service Learning team LEED Lab. He chose it because he is looking to learn how real-world situations work while growing as a professional. Mascorro is interested in the automotive industry and one day hopes to get a job in one of the companies that are out there. He currently holds the position of Membership Chair in his organization Ingenieros Unidos. He enjoys hanging out with friends and having a good laugh because he believes that its moments like those that make the college experience worth it. 

Joshua Ahmed

Team Lead

Joshua Ahmed is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student. Ahmed is a team leader of the Engineering Service Learning team LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Lab. He chooses it because it gave him an opportunity to apply his mechanical engineering skills to a project that helps the UC Merced community reach its sustainability goals. On his own time, Ahmed likes to spend time visiting new restaurants to try new foods. He also enjoys anything that challenges him to use all his skills and forces him to think in different ways then he is used to. 

Krishan Patel

Communications Officer

Krishan Patel is a third-year Computer Science student at UC Merced. Patel is the communications officer for Engineering Service Learning’s LEED Lab. Patel chose the LEED Lab for the hands-on engineering experience as well as the professional learning environment this course provides. Patel is striving to be a software engineer at a major game studio or at a tech company. This career choice stems from Patel’s love and passion for video games which have played a role in creating many happy memories throughout his childhood. Patel also loves reading and discussing anything Game of Thrones related. 

Vanessa Andrade

Procurement and Finance Officer

Vanessa Andrade is a fourth-year student pursuing her Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Andrade is the Procurement and Finance Officer for the Engineering Service Learning team, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Lab. She chose LEED Lab because it gave her an opportunity to solidify the reputation of the University of California, Merced for being a 100% environmentally friendly campus. This opportunity also gives Andrade a chance to understand the process of “green” certification. Aside from academics, Andrade enjoys researching cars and hopes to pursue a career in the automobile industry one day. 

Carlos Martinez

Intellectual Property Officer

Carlos Martinez is a third-year student pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Engineering. Martinez is the Intellectual Property Officer of the Engineering Service Learning team, LEED Lab. He joined the team because he was interested in how the school buildings receive their LEED certifications. He also joined because he wondered why this campus has become to be known as one of the most energy efficient campuses. Much of his love for “being green” has been brought on because of his experiences hunting, and noticing the dramatic environmental changes of the landscape around him.

Jessica Roque

Jessica Roque is a senior Mechanical Engineering student. She serves as a team member on the Energy and Atmosphere team for the Engineering Service Learning team, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Lab. Roque was interested in sustainability after seeing the large effort that UC Merced places with all programs and events on campus. She saw LEED Lab as an opportunity to make an impact on campus with a subject she is passionate about while also learning about the ways in which the university practices sustainability. In her free time, Roque enjoys going to the gym and reading horror novels.

Matthew Quinn

Matthew Quinn is a third-year at UC Merced pursuing his Bachelors of Science in Cognitive Science. He is a team member in LEED Lab (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), an Engineering Service Learning team. Quinn has a great interest in learning about the growing field of sustainability and green technologies and hopes to learn more about these subjects through his experiences in this class. He also hopes to gain practical skills in the work environment through the experiences he lives through in this class. Quinn enjoys spending his free time learning about history and reading.
