LEED Lab Biographies for Spring 2018

Francisco Mascorro – Project Manager

Francisco Mascorro is a second-year Mechanical Engineering student. Mascorro is the Project Manager of Engineering Service Learning team LEED Lab. He chose it because he is looking to expand his knowledge on the project while growing as a professional. Mascorro is interested in the automotive industry and one day hopes to get a job in one of the many companies that there are opportunities just waiting to be taken. He currently holds the position of Membership Chair in his organization SHPE chapter called Ingenieros Unidos. He enjoys hanging out with friends and having a good laugh because he believes that its moments like those that make the college experience worth it. He hopes to graduate in the next three years and learn as much as possible until then.

Alfredo Enriquez – Team Member/IPO

Alfredo Enriquez is a fourth-year Earth Systems Science student, IPO, and team member of the Leed Lab Engineering Service Learning Team. Being part of this project provides him an important opportunity to use his sustainability passion for the Leed certification of buildings at UC Merced. Academically, Enriquez is interested in merging modern business with sustainability implementation; he has been working along with the sustainability department at UC Merced since his first year at UC Merced. Enriquez hopes to become an entrepreneur in the insurance business world with sustainability aspects that can help our modern business owners become more sustainable. Enriquez plans on using this skill set to provide him the foundation needed to start his career-focus within the field as he graduates from UC Merced and moves to Los Angeles next year.

Bryan Martinez – Communications Officer

Bryan Martinez is a third-year Mechanical Engineering student and the communications officer of the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) lab engineering service-learning team. Being the communications officer and ultimately a team member of the LEED lab team provides him meaningful experience with communicating tasks to outside parties as well as learning mechanical efficiency which will be useful skills for his future career. Martinez has a strong passion for Automotive design and performance and hopes to continue to improve automotive efficiency, be it electric power or Internal combustion so that one-day vehicles reach their maximum potential and 100% efficiency. Martinez also plans on using the communications skills and fundamental engineering skills gained from his current roles on the LEED lab team to run his aftermarket car performance company which he plans on starting a few years after he graduates and receives his Engineering degree.

Armando Razo - Team leader

Armando Razo Is a first-year Materials Science engineer major who has joined the LEED Lab team and is doing this to become familiar with getting a building LEED-certified. His interest in LEED stems from his background in attending an environmentally conscious high school whose main focus was the environment and making their students environmental stewards. Through this project, he hopes to gain a better understanding of working on a team and to accomplish recertification for buildings on campus. He also hopes to gain ideas for this project to look for ways to tie into his major. As in what makes a building sustainable and using his degree to make materials that would make it more environmentally friendly.

Sagar Kumar – Team Leader

Sagar Kumar is a second-year Computer Science and Engineering student at the University of California Merced and a team leader of the LEED Lab Engineering Service Learning Team. Being part of this project provides him a meaningful opportunity to understand how efficient and sustainable certain buildings are, and work in the process of certifying various buildings at UC Merced and the greater community. Academically, Sagar is interested in Computer Science and wishes to pursue a career in computer science, specifically in his interests to regard to machine learning and data science.

Fabian Martinez Torres – Team Leader

Fabian Martinez is a third-year student pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is the Energy and Atmosphere team leader of LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Lab Engineering Service Learning team. Martinez plans on getting a career in aerospace engineering after graduation. He chose the team LEED because their goal is to help UC Merced build green buildings that will benefit the community at UC Merced by making a more sustainable and efficient environment. During his free time, he enjoys fishing and playing soccer with friends.

Elsie M. Reyes – Team Member

Elsie M. Reyes is a fourth-year student pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering. Reyes serves as a team member for the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Lab team. Through her curiosity of how a facility can obtain its LEED certification, let her chose this project. She is passionately interested in the sustainability of our environment, which accounts for this project. She hopes to learn a great amount of knowledge on how to turn our campus into the most “green” campus ever existed. She is grateful to have this opportunity that she desires to work on, which reflects in her field of pursuing a job as an Environmental Engineer. Her love for our environment relates to her hobbies such as hiking, traveling, and taking pictures of the memories she encounters every day such as cooking food. She loves going to Cafes to relax and do her school assignments. Through this project, she hopes to implement sustainable practices and improve the efficiencies of our environment.

Christopher Jimenez Ortega – Team member

Christopher Jimenez Ortega is a first-year Mechanical Engineering student that is interested in the automobile industry but not only wants to focus on the mechanics of the materials and the design of the products being produced but also wants to learn about how the electricity and energy will be distributed throughout the product and how power is distributed through cabling. Jimenez chose this team, so he can learn about energy design and ways to save and use energy efficiently. His goal is to design products that use energy more efficiently without only using mechanical forces but also electricity.

Andrea Duran – Team Member

Andrea Duran is a fourth-year student pursuing her Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering and is a member of the LEED Lab Engineering Service Learning team. Duran plans to gain knowledge of the water and electricity consumption of the Recreation and Athletic Buildings at UC Merced. Additionally, Duran is also part of the Bobcat Racing EV team who is developing a small Formula-style racecar for the international 2019 FSAE Competition in Lincoln, Nebraska. She hopes to gain real-life skills for her future career in the automotive industry.
