N.I.S.E Net Biographies for Fall 2013

Michael Arutro Urner, Team Leader

My name is Michael Arutro Urner. I am a fifth year student majoring in Molecular Biology and Materials Science Engineering. I am from Fresno, California. I am the only member in my family to pursue any sort of science degree. I have worked in various labs at the UC as well as a lab at California State University, Fresno. I hope my work experience will help bring my team success in completion of our project in the most effective manner possible.

Kevin Stow-Parker , Sub team leader 1

I am Kevin Stow-Parker a 4th year Mechanical Engineering Major with a Minor in Applied Mathematics. I am from Redding California. I hope engineering service learning will provide valuable team experience while also producing a valuable final product.

Zachary Michaels

Hi my name is Zachary Michaels, I'm a senior studying CSE at UC Merced. I come from Irvine, CA. Through working for NISE NET, I hope that I will be able to improve my teamwork skills by working on an engineering team.

Robert Hewitt

My name is Robert Hewitt. I am a CSE major, fourth year. After I graduate, I plan to use my skills to to pursue a career in software design and attempt to start software design company of my own. I'm exited for NISE Net because of the project management skills I gain from working with a team.

Richard Buettner, CFO

My name is Richard Buettner. I am a fourth year mechanical engineering student. I come from Porterville, CA.   I have joined this project because I took an intro to nanotechnology class and have been interested in it ever since.

 

David Rowe, Sub team leader 3/Materials Processor

I am David Rowe and I am a fifth year Bio-Engineering student at the University of California, Merced. I also have an emphasis in Nano-Technology. I hope to use my knowledge in Nano-Technology to work in medicine and also R&D for a wide variety of products. My goal in life is to start up my own company. I want to be able to say that I created and/or worked on a product that many people will use in their daily lives. I was born and raised in New York City for 17 years, and I am the first in my family to go to school for an engineering degree.

Andrew Yfantis, Communications

Hi my name is Andrew Yfantis I am a fourth year mechanical engineering student. I am 21 years old and I come from Saratoga, California. I chose NISE net because I think nanotechnology shows promise in the future and I would like to be a contribution to the world becoming familiar with more nanotechnological advances. I am happy to be a part of the NISE net team and hope that my teams work shows to be useful to our client.

Sean Nguyen , Recorder

I am Sean Nguyen and am in my fourth year at UC Merced pursuing a major in bioengineering. I am from Danville, California and joined NISE Net because I have a strong interest in the future and present applications of nanotechnology. I’m excited to be a part of the NISE Net team for my own development and the development of the students that our project could affect.

Zubin Ghafari, Webmaster

My name is Zubin Ghafari and I am currently a senior year computer science major, this is also my last semester. My hometown is Laguna Niguel in Orange County. Ever since high school I have had interests in computers. Currently I have experience in programming mobile applications, website design, and graphics. From my experiences in NISE Net I hope I can build upon my team working skills and abilities.

 

Khashy Hakamian, Sub Team Leader

My name is Khashy Hakamian. I am a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student from San Diego, California. I joined the Engineering Service Learning class NISE Net group hoping this will expand my knowledge and further my experience as an engineer. The nanoscale field is only growing and becoming a key part in today's society. In order to help promote nanoscale technology, people must be aware of it. This is the main purpose of NISE Net, to foster public awareness and understanding of the nanoscale field.   I decided to be the Vice Team Leader to help contribute to the group as much as possible and to promote NISE Net and nano technology. My main goal in life is to become a successful engineer and hold a managerial position to help guide my team to be as efficient and effective as possible.

Enrique Daza

My name is Enrique Daza. I am a fifth year bioengineering student with a minor in Economics. Since 2010, I have been a student researcher for Professor Wei-Chun Chin, working with algae biofuel secretion, EPS Polymer Aggregation and nanoparticle toxicity on algae. I traveled to Georgia Tech to study environmental effects on C. Elegans. I contributed to building a multi-stage heart monitor at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Finally, this past summer I designed a DNA Origami scaffold capable of quantifying motor protein force

Jose Garcia

My name is Jose Garcia. I'm a 19 year old native of Los Angeles. I was born in Hawthorne California but currently I live in Merced as I am pursuing a B.S in Bioengineering. I graduated from Lawndale High in June of 2012 ranked number six of my entire senior class. I am really excited to be in an Engineeering student. This semester I am hoping to expand my knowledge on designing procedures with the NISE Net Team!

Kevin Rodrigue

My name is Kevin Rodriguez. I am currently a fourth year Computer Science and Engineering undergraduate. I like to work on personal programming projects on my spare time. Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of my time as an undergraduate researcher at MESA. I have some web development experience and Android programming experience. I am looking forward to working for the NISE NET service learning team. I am a part of the design team and hope to learn a lot in this course and from my peers.
