Project Protect Biographies for Spring 2019

   

Ezer Angeles

Team Member

Ezer Angeles is a third-year student pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science & Engineering. As a team member of the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team, Angeles wishes to assist in the development of an application that will contribute to society and have a lasting impact on the community. Angeles has a strong passion for technology and hopes to achieve a software engineer position in a tech company post-graduation. He hopes that gaining the necessary and valuable skills during his time at Engineering Service Learning will serve as a strong foundation for his career in the future.

Christian Castro

Team Leader

Alan Cuatle-Palafox

Project Manager

Alan Cuautle-Palafox is a fourth-year student pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He is the project manager of the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team. In this project, Cuautle-Palafox plans to further develop his skills in managing resources and becoming an effective leader. For Project Protect, he plans on having a working mobile application that delivers oral health to the multi-cultural community of Merced county in three different languages: English, Spanish and Hmong. In the future, Cuautle-Palafox plans to use his skills to improve and design cars to be more fuel-efficient, while simultaneously reducing the carbon footprint for a cleaner tomorrow.   

Jaspreet Dhingsa

Team Member

Jaspreet Dhingsa is a second-year student pursuing a B.S. in Human Biology. As a member of the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team, Dhingsa will be able to apply her knowledge and familiarity with the struggles between patients and medical professionals in an attempt to help the design and content team execute a successful final product. Having worked as a certified and licensed pharmacy technician, Dhingsa is familiar with the medical field and its struggles. Dhingsa hopes to continue her education at pharmacy school and become a pharmacist with a future in researching potential medications.

Lan Do

Team Leader

Lan Do is a second-year student pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering and is the team leader of the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team. As the team leader, Do streamlines communication between the sub-team members and other team members in order to develop a submenu about oral health for the Healthy Host app. She will be using the knowledge that she has learned in classes in order to improve the communication between doctors and their patients. Do plans to pursue a career in cybersecurity post-graduation. She also like to watch art history documents on her free time.  

Alyssa Marie Estrella-Moody

Team Member

Alyssa Estrella is a first-year student pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Alyssa is a member of the coding team for Project Protect Engineering Service-Learning Team. In her position, her goal is to aid the multi-ethnic communities of Merced County who struggle because of a language barrier and to stress the importance of providing healthcare to these communities. Prior to her first year at the university, Ghilotti Bros Inc., a construction company, awarded Alyssa an internship and she has been working for the past two years. She desires to continue her career in the construction field post-graduation.

Brandon Gallardo

Team Leader

Brandon Gallardo is a second-year student pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and is team leader of content for the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team. Gallardo has previous experience being in leadership positions for clubs in high school and plans on using this experience to manage the content team members for this project. Gallardo was interested in being a part of this team because he wanted to help the community in any way he could. He hopes to one day use what he learns in his studies to work for Tesla Motors.

Brandon Gonzales Lopez

Procurement and Finance Officer

Brandon Gonzalez Lopez is a third-year student pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. As a team member on the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team, Gonzalez is working to improve the health and well-being of the multiethnic and multicultural groups in Merced County through translation services like language translation apps. Gonzalez has a strong passion for team projects and hopes to gain the valuable tool of networking that will serve him well as he pursues a career in the automotive industry post-graduation.

David Hernandez

Communication Officer

David Hernandez is a fourth-year student pursuing a B.A. in Political Science and is the communications officer for the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team. Throughout his undergraduate tenure, Hernandez was able to participate in various organizations including Toastmaster International, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and was a founding member of the Bobcat Boxing Club. He is currently employed by the Office of Admissions as a tour guide and hopes to use the skills that he has acquired on the job to propel his career in public relations when he graduates.

Gerardo Jarquin

Team Member

Gerardo Jarquin is a first-year student pursuing his B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering. Jarquin is a member of the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning project where he is working to help create an app to help improve communication between healthcare providers and their patients. Participating in this project has helped him help people who are unfamiliar with the healthcare system. In previous years, Jarquin has been in organizations that spend their time volunteering for their community. In the future, he plans to help small communities as much as possible to help them grow and prosper. 

 

Verenice Montes

Team Member

Verenice Montes is a second-year student pursuing her B.S. in Cognitive Science. She is a team member of the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team. Montes chose to be part of this project because she wants to develop skills in application development and help improve an application that will provide healthcare for people in Merced County. In 2018, she joined a student-lead project, the Mars Rover project, with the engineering organization SHPE-Ingenieros Unidos. After graduation, Montes wants to actively work in research to find a way to merge the use of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, focusing specifically in stroke victims.

Sara Perez Vita

Intellectual Property Officer

Sara Perez Vite is a third-year student pursuing a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and is the intellectual property officer of the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team. Participating in this project has given her a meaningful opportunity to help individuals in the Merced community who have difficulties attaining medical assistance in their native language, such as Spanish and Hmong. Academically, she is interesting in renewable energy that can help reduce greenhouse gases and  around the planet. Vite hopes to work with other researchers to make a sustainable world, giving back to her community for a better future and a better environment.  

Brianna Rivera

Assistant Project Manager

Brianna Rivera is a third-year student pursuing a B.S. in BioEngineering. Rivera is a member of the Project Protect Engineering Service Learning team where she is working to provide better oral health awareness to the multi-ethnic communities of Merced County. Through this project, she plans to gain a better understanding of how to help bridge the gap between healthcare access and multi-ethnic communities. After graduation, Brianna plans to pursue a career in the medical device industry to provide patients a longer, healthier lifestyle.
