Project Statement:

The goal is to redesign two gates: The interior gates leading to the actual MVPGR landscape. These gates are meant to provide a sense of welcome, to keep cattle contained, and to provide an access point for vehicles and pedestrians. Both gates will be latchable, with weathering steel as the main material.

The Merced Vernal Pools and Grassland Reserve (MVPGR) Gate Redesign Project will develop secure and visually appealing gates for the reserve entrances. Scheduled from February 3 to May 4, 2025, this project focuses on producing fully documented designs, including CAD files and cost estimates for two new gates. Environmental, regulatory, and community constraints must be considered to meet safety, accessibility, and conservation standards. Our success will be determined by the completion of a final design on schedule and positive stakeholder feedback.

The team has completed the initial planning, defining the problem proposed, and has provided three CAD files for stakeholder feedback. Based on feedback from our sponsor, the team will be honing in on a particular design to add artwork. This artwork will draw from recognizable symbols of the reserve, offering a unified sense of arrival. Pictures have been taken of the desired latches for the gate, and will be added to all future designs.
