Project Statement:

This project aimed to design a gate entrance to the Merced Vernal Pools and Grassland Reserve that meets or exceeds stakeholder expectations. The project consists of many elements that include aesthetic design, functional design, stakeholder communication, and meeting legal and stakeholder requirements. The gate was meant to evoke a sense of arrival while maintaining the functionality of a gate. The gate was required to meet all legal requirements, be manually operated, and have security features to keep out trespassers. Security features focused on vehicles and minimal consideration for pedestrian trespassers. In the time allotted for this project, we have made considerable progress considering time constraints and other limiting factors. Progress started with a project charter, the completion of a WBS(Work Breakdown Structure), and an assessment of project requirements, with the consideration of stakeholder preferences. We further refined our requirements and potential designs with information from the liaison and a survey of the gate location. With all the collected data, we designed four basic gate designs and a fifth following liaison review.
