About Kiddieland New Train Project
Project Statement
Kiddieland 2’s part of the Kiddieland New Train Projects involves designing two gates, one gate at the side of Kiddieland to allow vehicles to come into the park and another gate near the train attraction to let the train move outside of the park while being able to secure the park.

The sponsor was planning renovations for the park and our team were tasked to make a side delivery gate and a train crossing gate. The side delivery gate needed to be long enough to give clearance for vehicles but not too long so that it would obstruct trees near the park. The train crossing gate needed to be long enough to accommodate the gap between an adjacent tennis court and the park. Both gates were required to have anti-climb features to prevent vandals from trespassing into the park. Our team researched anti-climb fences, gates, and regulations to figure out concepts for our gate designs. We made three designs: a rod gate design like the fences of the park, a mesh-grid gate design, and a hybrid metal and wood fence design. We went with a mesh-grid gate design, it was both hard to climb and gave visibility into the park. We modeled our design with CAD software and worked out what materials the gates need.
