ENGR 096 is offered to students by the Engineering Service Learning program. It prepares students with exciting real-world experience and opportunities for professional growth. Students develop skills in design while gaining insight into the ethical, economic, and legal issues surrounding design challenges. Other skills students will master include teamwork, communication, leadership, and project planning.

The course ENGR 096: Human-Centered Research and Design has students learn techniques associated with research and design practices focusing on the user experience of end users and other stakeholders. Students gain an understanding of these concepts through real-world examples of engineering projects in the areas of energy and sustainable design. Topics covered in this course include: need assessment, market analysis, specification development user requirements, functional decomposition, DFMEA, prototyping, field testing, product assessment, and ethics.
