Jorge Luna - Project Manager

Jorge Luna is a third year Economics student from California City, CA. Luna is now the Project Manager of the Engineering Service Learning team, Get S.E.T. He chose this team because of his passion for teaching and volunteering in the community. Through his college career, he has gained experience with Team Get S.E.T. as a Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Team Leader, and Inventory and Finance Officer. Luna is committed to improving science education in the Merced County.

Josephine Mulherin- Assistant Project Manager

Mulherin is a second year Physics student from Victorville, CA. She is the assistant project manager for the Engineering Service Learning team and the Demonstration Sub-Team's leader. She chose this team hoping she could get more people interested in the S.T.E.M. fields. She has previous experience with leadership, event planning, creating a congressional bill, and scientific posters. In high school she was the Vice President of the Wrestling club and she was also in Mock Trial. In addition, she does volunteer work, reads, and watches videos to expand her knowledge in a vast amount of fields. Fun Fact: She’s loves cooking and learning new recipes.

Karen Ochoa – Communication Officer

Karen Ochoa is a second year student pursuing her Bachelors of Science in Physics. She is the Communication Officer for the Engineering Service Learning Get S.E.T. and a member of the DEMO sub-team. Ochoa chose Get S.E.T. after she realized that the STEM curriculum in her hometown was not appealing to students in the intended age groups and was lacking physical models to learn from. Ochoa has interned and done a REU at the Joint Bioenergy Institute in Emeryville, CA, whose goal is to turn biomass into biofuels that replaces gasoline diesel and jet fuels. During her free time she dances, hikes, and swims.

Keanu Herrera – Intellectual Property Officer

Keanu is a third year student pursuing his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He grew up in Apple Valley, a small town in the high desert of southern California. He has participated in the Engineering Service Learning Team Merit Partners his first year, but has decided to switch over to team Get S.E.T. Using his experience gained from Merit Partners he has picked up the position as Intellectual Property Officer and wishes to contribute anything he can for the team. He chose Get S.E.T. because of the close relations with the local K-12 schools.

Julianna Porraz – Procurement and Finance Officer

Julianna Porraz is a first year student majoring in Environmental Engineering. Porraz is the Procurement and Finance Officer for the Engineering Service Learning team GET S.E.T. She is from Riverside, CA and is experienced at helping clubs, communities, and people reach their goals. With a mindset of determination, Porraz allows herself to intermingle with groups and develop solutions to problems. She chose this team to help young students pursue their goals and be inspired by STEM. Porraz enjoys playing volleyball, and being with family and friends.

Asmaa Mohamed- Team Leader

Asmaa Mohamed is a second year student majoring in Developmental Biology and minoring in Chemistry. She is the leader of the Elementary school sub-team. Mohamed joined project Get S.E.T because she is passionate about learning and teaching science. She believes that her involvement in this project will help inspire students to choose STEM fields as their career paths and help diversify the field. She is originally from Egypt. She just moved to the United States 3 years ago where she had to learn English in 6 months. She enjoys drawing and reading. In the future she would like to obtain a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology.

Gustavo Razo – Team Leader

Gustavo Razo is a third year Applied Mathematics student from Bakersfield, CA with a concentration in Computer Science. Razo is the High School team leader for Get S.E.T. and has been with the team since Spring 2016. Razo is interested in developing algorithmic designs in today’s technology industry and hopes to become an educator and inspire young minds. He has been a member of the Margo F. Souza Leadership Center on campus, which trains students to become professional leaders. For leisure, he enjoys backpacking in Yosemite and aspires to attend graduate school at The University of Chicago in Illinois.

Kyle Linderbergh – Team Leader

Lindbergh is a Second year Mechanical Engineering student. Lindbergh is a second semester team member of the Engineering Service Learning team, Get S.E.T. He chose this team because of his interest in designing and building demonstrative science projects. Academically, he is interested in furthering the capability of space travel and the development of spacecraft. He has created a few interactive science museum pieces that demonstrate the Bew California Science Standards implemented to the public education system. He also enjoys spending time reading books about space travel, learning new material and watching the Los Angeles Clippers play in their home town.

Enrique Barrera – Team Member

Enrique Barrera is a third year Mechanical Engineer major. Barrera is a member of the Get S.E.T. session, an Engineering Service Learning team. Barrera plans to use his experiences with construction and knowledge in mechanics to successfully provide K-12 students with a fun experience in science, engineering, and technology to become more interested in pursuing more education at a University level. As an off-campus commuter, Barrera dedicates himself to get his education and learn from his peers to make him an exceptional engineer. He interacts with others both comically and seriously to encourage opinions to always find different solutions towards problems.

Joshua Tabimina – Team Member

Joshua is a 5th year student closing in on acquiring his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Tabimina chose Team Get S.E.T because he enjoys teaching STEM to his 4 younger siblings and wishes to enlighten more of the youth in his home town of Pittsburg, CA. Tabimina is the senior Apple Representative for the UC Merced Campus Store and also a part time Life-Coach. Tabimina has technical skills in the HVAC and Automotive industries and hopes to find a career in either field after graduation. Fun Fact: He is almost always smiling and has been known to share his smiles with his friends, he is also not afraid of a crowd and enjoys public speaking.

Christopher Moya Cigarroa- Team Member

Christopher Moya Cigarroa is a first year student majoring in Bioengineering from Modesto, California. He is currently a member of the Get S.E.T team and selected this group because he believes that a fulfilling education is a strong and necessary component to succeed in the modern world. He aspires to motivate younger students into pursuing a career in engineering much in the same manner that he himself was. Additionally, he hopes to continue with his education and earn his master’s degree. In his free time he enjoys listening to music from and learning about the cultures of various Hispanic countries.

Kate (Aye Hnin Yee Than) - Team Member

Coming from Yangon, Myanmar in her high school years, Kate Than is a Computer Science and Engineering major working with the High School sub team of Team Get S.E.T. Than’s choice to join the team reflects her ambition to revolutionize the current education system in United States, which overlaps with Team Get S.E.T’s values in developing innovational projects to help create stronger school curriculums. Than enjoys tutoring her friends and playing video games in her spare time, which also makes her a firm believer of success in educational gaming programs, which she plans to develop.

Paty Mascorro –Team member

Paty Mascorro is a fourth year at UC Merced student pursuing her Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. Mascorro is a member of Get S.E.T, an Engineering Service Learning team. She plans to use her knowledge of structures to help her team create a project where elementary students will be able to learn about earthquakes and their effects. As an active member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Mascorro spends her time helping out the community and hopes to continue to make an impact.

Michael Grant – Team Member

Michael Grant is a first year transfer student pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Grant is the first in his family to pursue a higher level of education at a UC campus. He is a member of the engineering team Get S.E.T. because he believes that team Get S.E.T. will inspire students to further their education in the S.T.E.M. fields. One of Grant’s passions is learning about cars and how to fix/modify them. He hopes to one day branch off into Automotive Engineering in order to fulfill his dream of designing parts to enhance cars’ performance.
