Chris Butler is the Director of Engineering Service Learning at UC Merced. Butler graduated with a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Environmental Systems from the University of California, Merced.  Since 2016, he developed and increased the Engineering Service Learning program at UC Merced to serve as a cornerstone design course. Over this period, he has led over 35 real-world projects that delivered functional solutions for the local and regional non-profit service sector.  Butler enjoys developing new partnerships with both non-profit and industry partners to help UC Merced students gain the necessary professional and technical experience to start their professional careers upon graduation. 

Arianna Malakis

Event Coordinator Assistant

Arianna Malakis is an about-to-be alumni at UC Merced. Ari is an aspiring Artificial Intelligence architect aiming for an agreeable apprenticeship after acquiring her alumni affirmation after April (and then some). Ari aims to achieve an abundance of amazing and alluring adventures as she adjourns her age of absorbing abstractions. Assuming altercations among her assumed alumni adventures, she is also amused of the abundance of apprehension around absolutely affirming the anatomical area that allows for autonomy and acumen. Ari’s atypical approach of agonizing about average assignments allows her to assemble amusing answers; akin to this alliterative autobiography. 

Beatrice Howell

Photojournalism Assistant

Beatrice Howell is a third-year Cognitive Science student at the University of California, Merced. Howell assists with Photojournalism as the Photographer for events and workshops organized by Engineering Service Learning. She joined the EngSL team in the Spring of 2019 will skills focusing in portrait photography, striving to make every photo subject feel celebrated. Howell aspires to complete her Bachelor of Science in the spring of 2021 and apply to PhD programs to continue her pursuit in Cognitive Science/Data Science research.   

Esther Quintanilla 

Journalism Assitant

Esther Quintanilla is a third-year English and Writing student at the University of California, Merced. She joined Engineering Service Learning as a Journalism Assistant in the Fall of 2019. As an assistant, Esther hopes to write captivating, accurate stories to promote the EngSL projects to the students and faculty of UC Merced. After completing her undergraduate degree, Esther wants to attend graduate school to obtain a Masters in Journalism to become a journalist for online media.  

Jake Totter 

Assessment Assitant

Jake is a fourth-year Management and Business Economics major here at UC Merced. He originally joined EngSL as the Digital Media Assistant in May 2019. After working throughout the summer, he moved to EngSL’s Assessment Assistant position. In this role, he handles various tasks ranging from website management to data analysis and mapping for student information. After graduation, Jake plans on working as a Proposal Analyst for Lockheed Martin in Southern California.
